Loving Each Other under the Lord

A spouse is a precious gift, but no husband or wife can carry the place that belongs to God. When we ask marriage to provide all our identity, security, and purpose, we put a weight on each other that neither person can bear.

Jesus places love for God first and love for our neighbor beside it. That order helps marriage. We honor the Lord, receive His truth, and learn to love the person nearest us with a heart directed toward Him.

It means we cannot defend dishonesty as loyalty to a spouse. It also means we should not use religious activity as an excuse to neglect care at home. The same Lord who commands our worship commands our love. Make time for Scripture and worship, then let that devotion shape your patience, faithfulness, and attention. A shared life becomes healthier when both people look to God as Lord and receive each other as someone to cherish rather than someone expected to meet every need perfectly.
