The Job without a Name beside It

Every home has jobs that somehow belong to nobody. The empty roll waits to be changed. The appointment waits to be made. Both people notice, and both can think of a reason the other should handle it.

Jesus turns His disciples away from competing for importance. He points them toward service and gives His own life as the greatest example. His death paid a ransom we could never pay. Our service is a response to His love, never a way of earning it.

A husband and wife can practice this without pretending that workloads do not matter. Talk honestly when one person is carrying too much. Then be willing to take responsibility without needing a ceremony of appreciation. Love often becomes visible through completed work. Learn the task, finish it carefully, and spare your spouse the burden of managing every detail. Service has a different spirit when the question of who deserves the credit no longer runs the household.
