More Than the Years Can Measure

Time changes the way a person looks and the work a body can do. A marriage built only around youthful appearance will struggle to honor the person who has lived faithfully through the passing years.

Psalm 139 praises the Creator's workmanship. The whole psalm places us before a God who knows us completely. A person's dignity is not removed by illness, disability, aging, or a change in appearance.

Be careful with jokes about your spouse's body. A familiar laugh can hide real hurt, especially when affection has begun to feel conditional. Speak as though the person matters more than an ideal you have learned from comparison.

Offer care that respects dignity today. Ask before assuming what help is wanted. Thank your spouse for a quality that has deepened with time. Physical attraction has a proper place in marriage, but faithful love has room for the whole person. The years are not simply taking something away; they are part of the life you are sharing.
