Good We Cannot Yet See

When something painful happens, we may feel pressure to explain it before we have even understood the loss. A quick explanation can sound confident while leaving a grieving spouse feeling unheard.

Romans 8:28 does not say that every event is good. It says God works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. The next verse directs our attention to becoming conformed to Christ, not simply receiving the outcome we wanted.

Let that promise provide a foundation without using it to hurry someone through sorrow. You do not need to identify every part of God's purpose in order to trust Him. Presence, practical help, and honest listening may be the most faithful gifts you can offer today.

Avoid announcing that you know why the hardship came. Hold to what Scripture actually says and leave room for what remains unknown. God's goodness is dependable when our explanations are incomplete. A couple can stand on that truth together without pretending the pain has already passed.
