Tell What the Lord Has Done
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
Psalm 78:4 KJV
A family passes down more than recipes and photographs. It also passes down an account of what mattered. Children notice which stories are told repeatedly and which events are considered worth remembering.
Speak about the Lord's works in Scripture and the real ways He has provided for your household. Keep personal accounts accurate. A story does not become more honoring to God because its details have been improved for effect.
Couples can help one another remember kindness received through ordinary people, guidance learned from the Word, and grace shown through difficult seasons. Include honest acknowledgment of failure and correction. The next generation needs truth more than a polished family legend.
The purpose is to direct attention toward God, not to make your household sound unusually spiritual. Christ remains the center of the saving message. Tell the truth about Him clearly and let family memories support gratitude rather than replace the gospel. An ordinary conversation at the table can help a younger person understand that Scripture belongs to real life and that the Lord's faithfulness is worth remembering when their own difficult days arrive.
Keep the passage in context
The psalm calls God's people to tell the coming generation His praises, strength, and wonderful works. Remembering His deeds serves continued faithfulness.
