The Gift That Answers Doubt about God's Care

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Romans 8:32 KJV

A disappointment can make God's care feel uncertain. We look at the request that was not answered as hoped and begin asking the whole future to explain itself through that one result.

Paul directs attention to the gift of the Son. God has already demonstrated the depth of His commitment to save His people. The cross is a firmer measure of His love than the changing ease of our circumstances.

This verse does not promise every possession, opportunity, or outcome a couple might desire. The surrounding passage concerns God's purpose for those who belong to Christ. His provision is wise as well as generous.

Encourage one another to return to that foundation. Speak honestly about loss without treating it as proof that the Lord has become indifferent. Continue the practical work of planning, seeking help, and obeying Scripture. You may not understand the present answer, but you can remember the gift already given. A marriage gains steadiness when God's care is measured by the Saviour He provided rather than by whether every shared hope has arrived on schedule.

Keep the passage in context

Paul reasons from God's giving of His own Son to His faithful provision for His people. The promise is governed by God's saving purpose, not unlimited satisfaction of every desire.
