Reconciliation Has a Real Foundation

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Romans 5:10 KJV

Reconciliation means more than a temporary pause in hostilities. In the gospel, sinners are brought into a right relationship with God through the death of His Son. The wrong is addressed at a cost we could not pay.

Human reconciliation is not identical to that saving work, but the distinction helps us avoid shallow language. A marriage is not repaired simply because both people stop discussing the injury. Truth, repentance, and changed conduct must have room to matter.

Seek a sound foundation for peace. Name the wrong accurately, take responsibility, and make appropriate repair. If the situation is unsafe or the harm continues, obtain protection and qualified help. A demand for immediate reconciliation cannot replace those responsibilities.

The gospel supplies hope without making us careless about truth. Christ has accomplished the greater reconciliation that sinners need, and His grace can shape the way believers pursue peace with each other. Let the goal be a truthful, responsible restoration rather than the quickest return to appearances. A quiet room is pleasant, but a relationship needs more than silence to become healthy again.

Keep the passage in context

Paul explains reconciliation to God through the death of His Son and the believer's confidence in His living Saviour. Peace with God rests upon Christ's accomplished work.
