Wisdom That Can Be Approached

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

James 3:17 KJV

A person can have strong opinions and still be difficult to approach with a simple concern. If every disagreement produces a speech or a display of offense, the home gradually learns to keep important matters quiet.

Heavenly wisdom has a different character. It is pure and truthful, while also gentle and willing to hear. Being easy to be entreated does not mean agreeing with everything. It means that a reasonable appeal can receive a fair hearing.

Make it safer for your spouse to speak honestly. Listen without punishment, consider new information, and distinguish a concern from an attack on your worth. When you need time to think, say so and return to the conversation.

The Lord's wisdom produces good fruit in the manner as well as the conclusion. A correct decision reached through intimidation leaves damage behind it. Seek a response that agrees with all the qualities James names. Marriage benefits when truth can be discussed without either person first having to prepare for a storm. A teachable heart is a useful gift to the person who shares your life.

Keep the passage in context

James describes wisdom from above as pure, peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, merciful, fruitful, impartial, and sincere. Its character differs from bitter rivalry.
