The LORD Was With Joseph

And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

Scripture Review
Joseph is brought down to Egypt and bought by Potiphar. Then Scripture says, “the LORD was with Joseph.” Those two facts stand in the same paragraph: Joseph is a slave, and the LORD is with him. God’s presence is not measured by Joseph’s freedom, title, comfort, or location. The chapter refuses the shallow idea that hardship proves God has left.
Joseph becomes prosperous, but prosperity here does not mean he can go home or choose his own future. It means God makes his work effective inside bondage. I can imagine how strange that felt. The dream spoke of others bowing, while every morning Joseph rose under another man’s authority. Faithfulness had to live in the gap between what God revealed and what Joseph could see.
The merchants and Potiphar meant a legal transaction in human property. Joseph’s brothers meant permanent separation and the end of his influence.
God meant to remain with Joseph, train him through service, and begin making His favor visible in the very house where Joseph had no earthly rights.
What this asks of me
I must not postpone obedience until my circumstances feel like a blessing. The LORD can be with me in a place I would never have selected. If I measure His faithfulness only by comfort, I will miss His presence in service, discipline, endurance, and the quiet strength to do today’s work well.
