Trusted With All He Had

And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

Scripture Review
Potiphar sees that the LORD is with Joseph and that the LORD makes what he does prosper. Joseph finds grace in his sight and is made overseer over the house. Responsibility grows because faithfulness has become visible. Joseph does not control whether Potiphar promotes him, but he controls whether his work can be trusted.
The blessing reaches beyond Joseph. The LORD blesses the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake, in the house and in the field. God can make one faithful servant a channel of benefit to people who do not yet know Him. Potiphar leaves everything in Joseph’s hand except the bread he eats. This is authority learned from underneath, the kind that knows what it means to answer to someone else before directing others.
Potiphar meant to place a capable servant over his property because Joseph’s work was reliable and profitable to the household.
God meant to bless the house through Joseph and prepare him for larger stewardship by proving him faithful with another man’s affairs.
What this asks of me
I should not despise responsibility because it is attached to someone else’s name. Scripture asks whether I can be faithful with what belongs to another. Influence often grows out of quiet trustworthiness. The best testimony at work is not religious talk without effort; it is labor so honest and dependable that God’s hand cannot be ignored.

- Does my daily work strengthen or weaken the testimony I speak about the Lord?
