The Way to Escape

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Scripture Review
Paul writes that temptation is common to man and that God is faithful. The verse does not say temptation will feel small or that believers cannot fall. It says God will not suffer us to be tempted above what we are able and will make a way to escape so that we may bear it. The center of the promise is not my strength; it is God’s faithfulness.
Joseph’s escape in Genesis 39 looked like an open doorway and a garment left in someone else’s hand. It did not spare him from a lie or prison, but it spared him from consenting to wickedness. I often want an escape route that protects obedience and reputation at the same time. God promises enough grace to obey, not immunity from every response other people may choose.
Temptation means to draw the heart toward sin by making disobedience appear necessary, private, satisfying, or impossible to resist.
God means to prove Himself faithful and provide a genuine path of obedience, giving His people strength to endure rather than permission to surrender.
What this asks of me
I should look for the escape before I begin explaining why I cannot take it. That may mean distance, accountability, confession, or a decisive change of routine. I cannot claim God failed to provide while I keep standing beside the temptation. His faithfulness calls for my obedience.

- Am I demanding an escape that costs nothing before I will obey?
