Genesis 39 – With Him in Every Room

And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

Scripture Review
Genesis 39 moves Joseph from Potiphar’s house to prison, but one truth refuses to move: the LORD is with him. His presence is stated when Joseph serves, when Potiphar observes the blessing, when Joseph enters prison, and when the keeper entrusts responsibility to him. The chapter does not define blessing as a life without slavery, temptation, lies, or confinement. It defines Joseph’s security by the God who remains present.
I also see integrity tested in two directions. Joseph is faithful with Potiphar’s property when promotion is possible, and faithful with Potiphar’s marriage when no other man is in the house. His public work and private purity belong to the same walk with God. The false accusation takes his position but cannot take his character. The prison changes his address but not the One who is with him.
Potiphar meant stewardship, his wife meant seduction and retaliation, and the prison meant confinement. Human decisions repeatedly changed Joseph’s circumstances.
God meant to form and preserve a faithful man whose integrity did not depend upon place, recognition, or immediate reward.
What this asks of me
I need the same Christianity in the office, the private room, the accusation, and the setback. If my faith works only when people reward it, it is not the faithfulness Joseph models. The LORD’s presence does not promise ease; it gives me every reason to remain clean, dependable, and hopeful.
