A Plan Is Not a Promise
A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

Making a plan can help you act responsibly. The trouble begins when you treat the plan as something God is obligated to fulfill. Proverbs 16:9 places our intentions beneath His direction.
An opportunity closing does not automatically reveal the reason it closed. Be careful about announcing that you know exactly what God is doing in every detail. You can trust His wisdom without inventing an explanation He has not given.
Prepare well, seek counsel, and obey Scripture. When circumstances change, revise the plan honestly instead of forcing it through a wrong choice. Disappointment is real, but it does not remove your next responsibility. The Lord can be trusted beyond the part of the road you can currently see.
Keep the passage in context
The proverb places human planning beneath the LORD's direction. It encourages humility about our control. It does not teach that every personal desire or unexpected event is a direct instruction from God.
