A Wider View of Success
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
Psalm 73:17 KJV
A short view can make the wrong things look important. A person seems successful because a picture is attractive, an audience is large, or a difficult consequence has not arrived yet. The rest of the story remains outside the frame.
Asaph struggled with that problem. He saw ungodly people prospering and became troubled by the apparent unfairness. His perspective changed as he considered their end before God. Present comfort was not the final measure of a life.
Let Scripture widen your view. A decision should be judged by truth, not simply by whether it produces a pleasant result this afternoon. Honesty, holiness, and faith in Christ matter beyond the moment when they seem costly.
Be careful about comparing your whole life with another person's selected appearances. You do not know every burden, motive, or consequence involved. Use the responsibilities and opportunities God has given you faithfully. The Lord sees the entire account, including what no audience can measure. A life rooted in Him has a value that popularity cannot establish and temporary disappointment cannot erase. Keep eternity in view while doing the ordinary work of today.
Keep the passage in context
Asaph's struggle with the prosperity of the wicked changes when he considers their end in the light of God's presence and truth.
