Help You Do Not Have to Earn

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 KJV
When you have made a mistake, asking for help can feel harder than hiding it. You may imagine that you need several better days before the Lord will listen. Hebrews points believers toward the throne of grace in the very time they need mercy and help.
Our confidence rests in Jesus Christ. He is not surprised by human weakness, and He did not surrender to sin. His perfect righteousness and priestly care give His people a reason to draw near rather than pretend they are stronger than they are.
Boldness here is not disrespect. It is the confidence of someone welcomed through Christ. Speak honestly to the Lord, admit your need, and depend upon His provision. Do not turn prayer into a performance designed to prove your maturity.
Receiving help also includes obeying the truth you already understand. Put away the source of temptation, make the necessary apology, or seek wise counsel. Grace does not make obedience unnecessary. It enables a different response. You can come with your real need today because your access to God depends upon a faithful Saviour, not an impressive record of recent success.
Keep the passage in context
Because Jesus is the great High Priest who understands human weakness without sinning, believers may approach the throne of grace with confidence in Him.
