Intention Needs a Next Step
When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

It feels good to announce a new commitment. Following through usually feels more ordinary. Ecclesiastes 5 warns about vows made to God, where reverence should make us slow to promise and faithful to perform.
Do not make dramatic promises to impress people or relieve an uncomfortable feeling. Before committing, consider what the action requires. Time, preparation, and accountability may matter more than the strength of the announcement.
Treat ordinary responsibilities honestly as well. If you have agreed to help, put the commitment into your schedule and do your part. If you cannot fulfill it, communicate promptly. A limited promise kept is more useful than a large promise forgotten. Let your words describe a responsibility you are actually prepared to carry.
Keep the passage in context
Ecclesiastes warns against careless vows made to God. The direct subject is reverent speech before Him. The broader concern for truthful commitments can inform ordinary promises without treating every casual plan as a sacred vow.
