Pay Attention to So Great Salvation

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Hebrews 2:3 KJV

Something can be close enough to hear and still be easy to ignore. You may know the order of a church service, recognize familiar verses, and understand when everyone usually stands. Those things are useful, but they cannot take the place of responding personally to the gospel.

Hebrews describes salvation as great because of the Saviour and the rescue He provides. Sin is real, judgment is real, and Jesus Christ died and rose again to save sinners. This message deserves more than a place among the sounds you have learned to tune out.

Do not assume that growing up around Christian people makes you a Christian. Salvation comes through personal faith in Christ. Ask for a clear explanation from Scripture if you are uncertain about what that means.

For the believer, careful attention continues to matter. Read the Word thoughtfully and listen with a willing heart. Treat familiar truth as valuable because it is true, not as unimportant because you have heard it before. The greatest message in the room may be the one you already know by heart and still need to take seriously today.

Keep the passage in context

The writer warns against neglecting the salvation first proclaimed by the Lord and confirmed by those who heard Him. Familiarity must not become an excuse for indifference.
