What Your Treasure Is Teaching Your Heart

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Matthew 6:21 KJV

The things you value receive your attention. You remember their details, make room for them, and feel their loss sharply. Jesus teaches that treasure and the heart are closely connected.

Money is part of this, but time and attention reveal priorities too. A device, hobby, or ambition can begin demanding more than its proper place. Enjoying something is not automatically wrong. Letting it control your honesty, kindness, or obedience is a different matter.

Review your habits with help from a trustworthy adult. Notice what repeatedly receives your first attention and what gets pushed aside. Make practical room for Scripture, family responsibilities, generous service, and the people who need your presence.

You cannot purchase salvation by giving things away or managing time well. Christ saves by grace. Believers learn to value what matters because they belong to Him. Begin with a sensible change you can actually carry out. The direction of your heart is influenced by what you keep investing in. Give more of your attention to the things you will still be glad to have valued when this week's excitement has passed.

Keep the passage in context

Jesus contrasts treasure on earth with treasure in heaven and connects a person's treasure with the direction of the heart.
