The Ordinary Things That Honor God

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV

You do not have to wait for a church platform before doing something that honors God. The way you eat with others, speak during a game, handle schoolwork, or care for a borrowed object can show what matters to you.

Paul's instruction reaches ordinary life. It also appears in a setting where believers needed to consider how their choices affected other people. Doing everything to God's glory is not an excuse to ignore someone else's good while insisting that your own preference is spiritual.

Work honestly. Enjoy good recreation without letting it become your ruler. Receive food with gratitude and treat the people at the table kindly. When a choice would damage another person for your own convenience, stop and consider the responsibility Scripture places before you.

You cannot make every moment dramatic, and you do not need to. A faithful life contains many quiet decisions. The Lord sees them. Let the ordinary thing in your hands become an opportunity to acknowledge His goodness, obey His Word, and care about the people who share the day with you.

Keep the passage in context

Paul discusses conduct that considers God's glory and the good of others. Even ordinary activities should be governed by that larger purpose.
