The Message We Carry
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20 KJV
The gospel is not simply a message about being nicer or attending a pleasant church. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He died for our sins and rose again. Sinners need to trust Him as Saviour, because good behavior cannot earn the salvation He provides.
Christ's commission includes teaching people to observe what He commanded. Believing the gospel leads into a life of learning and obedience. Baptism follows faith as an act of obedience; the water is not a payment for forgiveness or a replacement for personal trust in Christ.
You can learn to explain the gospel plainly and kindly. Speak honestly about what you know, and seek help from a trusted Bible teacher when a question goes beyond your understanding. Never invent an answer simply to keep a conversation moving.
The Lord's work is greater than your own confidence or speaking ability. Depend upon Him, care about the person listening, and keep the message centered on Christ. His authority and presence give His people reason to serve faithfully wherever they have an opportunity to bear witness.
Keep the passage in context
The risen Jesus commissions His disciples to make disciples, baptize, and teach obedience, with the promise of His presence. The mission rests on His authority.
