Be Willing to Have the Whole Matter Examined
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24 KJV
We are usually willing for God to examine the part of a disagreement that supports our position. The harder surrender is allowing Him to address our motives, methods, and omissions as well.
Psalm 139 ends with an open heart before the Lord who already knows everything. There is no hidden corner we can successfully protect from His knowledge. Honesty allows us to receive His direction rather than spend our strength defending the darkness.
Approach a marital concern with that willingness. Tell the truth about the other person's conduct and your own. Do not omit the sentence you spoke first or the information you withheld because it complicates the account.
Wise help depends upon accurate facts. Bring them into the light and remain ready for Scripture to correct your conclusions. Christ's grace is sufficient for the real situation, so an edited version offers no advantage. A marriage gains a sounder path forward when both people want truth more than vindication. Let the Lord lead the whole life, including the part of the matter where you had hoped no one would look too closely.
Keep the passage in context
David invites God's searching knowledge and guidance into his heart and ways. The closing words of the psalm express willingness to be known and led by the Lord.
