Company in the Valley

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4 KJV
A hard season can make the rest of the world seem far away. Other households continue with ordinary plans while yours is learning the details of treatment, loss, or uncertainty. Familiar conversation may suddenly feel too light for the weight you are carrying.
The Shepherd's presence reaches the valley. David does not describe a route around every dark place. He speaks of the Lord being with him within it. For those who belong to Christ, that is a steady truth when feelings are unsettled and explanations remain incomplete.
Offer your spouse the kind of company you can faithfully give. Sit through the appointment, listen to the repeated concern, or help with the ordinary work that sorrow makes difficult. You do not have to produce a spiritual explanation for every turn in the road.
Accept support from trusted people when the burden is too heavy for the two of you alone. The Lord's care often reaches us through such help. Let His faithfulness keep you from interpreting a difficult valley as abandonment. You may not know how long the road will be, but you can continue together under the care of a Shepherd whose presence does not stop at its entrance.
Keep the passage in context
David describes the Shepherd's presence through the valley of the shadow of death. His confidence rests in the LORD's nearness and care within danger.
