Care When the Calendar Is Full
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
Proverbs 3:27 KJV
Busy weeks can reduce marriage to exchanged information. One person reports the appointment, the other confirms the payment, and both keep moving. Necessary coordination is useful, but companionship needs more than a shared calendar.
Use a small opportunity for real attention. Put down the device for a conversation, offer a thoughtful kindness, or notice something that would make the next day easier. Care does not always require a large amount of time, but it does require presence.
Avoid postponing every expression of love until a quieter season. Some seasons remain busy for a long time. A modest, dependable habit can serve the marriage better than a large plan continually moved into the future.
This proverb does not require meeting every possible demand. Ability and opportunity matter, and appropriate limits remain necessary. Within the responsibilities already yours, do the good that is available today. The Lord has given you a person to love in the middle of ordinary life. A full calendar should encourage intentional care, because the next convenient moment may not arrive as neatly as you hoped.
Keep the passage in context
The proverb calls for doing good to those to whom it is due when the opportunity and ability are present. A good intention should not indefinitely delay a needed kindness.
