Put the Numbers on the Same Page

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
Proverbs 27:23 KJV
Money becomes harder to discuss when one spouse knows the details and the other is expected to live with the conclusions. Uncertainty can create fear even where there is no deliberate dishonesty.
Set aside a calm time to look at the actual numbers together. Include regular expenses, debts, savings, and upcoming needs. Use information as a shared tool rather than as a weapon for proving which person has been more responsible.
Different abilities can be useful. One spouse may handle records more easily while the other notices practical needs that a spreadsheet misses. Clear communication allows both kinds of attention to serve the household.
This proverb does not guarantee wealth to everyone who plans carefully. It encourages faithful care of what is present. If the situation is difficult, seek qualified help and avoid promises of quick rescue through risky schemes. Agree on a manageable next step and review it together. The Lord values honesty in ordinary stewardship. Knowing the condition of the household can replace vague suspicion with a truthful starting point for work, patience, and shared responsibility.
Keep the passage in context
The proverb calls for diligent knowledge of the condition of one's flocks. Its agricultural setting teaches attentive stewardship of the resources entrusted to a household.
